BILLIARD ROOM DESIGNED BY ROBERT J. STIRLING
URBAN, Josef, 1 Nieberlungengasse 8,
Vienna.
Herr Urban is one of the leading architects
in Vienna, and a member of the “ Hagen-
bund ” Society. He has designed many villas,
situated in different parts of Austria, which
have been completely furnished and decorated
after his designs. He is now engaged in erect-
ing a castle at Galantes, in Hun-
gary, for Count Esterhazy, which,
when completed, will be one of
his most beautiful works. The
wall fountain, illustrated in col-
our in the next section of this
volume, has been designed for this
building. It is to be carried out
in green Salzburg marble, and the
decoration set with amethysts and
other stones. The bronze figure is
by Herr Josef Heu. Herr Urban is
also an illustrator of books, and in
conjunction with Professor Hein-
rich Lefler has produced many de-
lightful originals. Two of them
—“ The Sleeping Beauty ” and
“ Hanschen, wilt thou dance ? ”—
were reproduced in colour in the
Special Summer Number of The
Studio, 1906, devoted to the Art
Revival in Austria, which volume
also contained several interiors by
Herr Urban. Other rooms de-
signed by him appeared in The
Studio Year Book, 1907.

VOYSEY, C. F. A., 23 York
Place, Baker Street, London.
Mr. Voysey is one of the most inter-
esting architects and designers of
the day. The keynote of his work
is simplicity and utility combined
with beauty of form and colour.
Some of his most successful work
was done in connection with the re-
arrangement and re-decoration of
the interior of “ Garden Corner,”
a house on Chelsea Embankment
belonging to Mr. E. J. Horniman,
M.P., and an illustrated article by
Mr. Baillie Scott dealing with this
appeared in the October number
of The Studio, 1907. An inter-
esting house at Frinton, which
was built, decorated, and furnished entirely
from Mr. Voysey’s designs, was illustrated
in The Studio Year Book, 1908 (B73 and 98
to 101). He also designs furniture, fireplaces,
pottery, wallpapers, fabrics, table glass and
silver, metal-work, in fact, everything neces-
sary for the equipment and decoration of
a house.
