L AUGER, Professor Max,

Professor Max Lauger began his
artistic career as a painter, then
turned his attention to ceramics,
achieving much success with his
tableand other ware. Thisprompted
him to extend his activity to tiled
stoves, fireplaces, and wall foun-
tains ; and he also designs embroi-
deries and metal utensils. At the
St. Louis Exhibition in 1904 he ex-
hibited a living-room fitted up from
his designs ; at the Jubilee Exhibi-
tion at Karlsruhe in 1906 there was
■ a special display of his productions ;
and for the Jubilee Exhibition at
Mannheim in 1907 he designed a
series of 15 gardens, which were
illustrated in the August number of
The Studio, 1907. At present he is
engaged upon the erection of a large
country mansion at Aerdenhout in
Holland. Some examples of pottery
designed by him and executed by
the Thonwerke Kandern (Baden)
are illustrated on the opposite page,
and a flower stand on page 110.
