set with mother-of-pearl and opal.
The silver match-box is set with
gem opals.

accepted as a master, and at the last Salon de
Champs Elysees a whole room was reserved
for his work. His bookbindings are remark-
able specimens of his art, as will be seen by
the few examples given here.

Herr Lettre designs and executes articles in
metal, including ornaments, caskets, goblets,
watches, trophies, &c. He is represented here
by a dish embossed in silver (page 147).

The silver casket, illustrated on
this page, was designed by Mr. Mar-
shall, and executed by the Birming-
ham Guild of Handicraft for the
Nottingham City Council. The
casket was used to hold the Freedom
of the City, which was recently pre-
sented to Sir Samuel Johnson, on the
occasion of his becoming a Free-
man of the City of Nottingham.
