M. Petrus Ruban has devoted
himself solely to artistic
bookbindings, and has pro-
duced numerous important
and beautiful examples of
the craft. He has executed^
several bindings in the more
conventional style of the
past, but he has also given us
others displaying consider-
able originality, both in de-
sign and execution. He fre-
quently collaborates in his
work with M. Guetant.

ROWNTREE, Miss Irma T., Ashleigh Werneth, Oldham.
Miss Rowntree designs and executes bookbindings and book-
plates. She has exhibited at the New Zealand Internationa]
Exhibition,Women Artists’ Exhibition in London, Scottish Nation-
al Exhibition, Liverpool, Didsbury and Brighton. The “ Canter-
bury Tales ” binding, illustrated on page 156, is executed in Niger
morocco, gold tooled, and the “Vicar of Wakefield,” on the same
page, in white vellum.
