SPENCER, Edward, 9 Maddox Street, Regent
Street, London.
Mr. Edward Spencer is a well-known designer of
wrought-iron, brass and copper-work. His designs
are always well considered in relation to the material
tobe employed and the utility of the article, and they
invariably bear the stamp of originality, without
any suggestion of eccentricity. He is represented
here by three beautiful examples of this art. The
chalice and paten on this page are executed in silver
and enamel, with ivory pillars. His silver and
enamel cinerary casket is also admirably designed,
while the wrought-iron dogs, with pierced and tooled
brass heads and discs of blue steel, illustrated on
the same page, are excellent specimens of modern
metal-work. Mr. Spencer has recently made import-
ant designs which are to be carried out at Leeds
