709. Block. Built into the wall of a modern house in the southern part of the
village. The house is a short distance west of the large sanctuary; see no. 706. The
stone is at the side of a stairway and faces south. Length 44 cm.; height 19 cm.
Height of letters 3-4 cm.

Christians !

/io. Block. Found in a house in the southern part of the village a short distance

west of the large sanctuary, and two or three houses to the
northwest of the house where
no. 709 was found. The stone
ΤΝίκαι?, ε τυ/y τον Χριστιανών). js jn an ancient arch in a
room which is spanned by two
arches. Length 82 cm.; height

On the expression νίκα I

τύχη used originally, like the Latin vincas, as a cry of acclamation in the circus, and
afterwards employed more generally, see no. 256. To the inscriptions there quoted
should be added Lefebvre, Recueil des Inscr. Grecques-Chretiennes d'Egypte, no. 37, νίκα
η τνχΐ7 Εύτοκίου + καί Βενετων + καί του γραψαντο[ς].
