Aurelius Sabinus, veteran, of {the) tribe of {the) Aschenoi, built my tomb.
Mention of a φυλή Ασχηνών is found here for the first time in Greek inscriptions,
may be derived from Arabic Hasak.
761. Stele. Now used as a lintel
.Αμεσου <v> ε’τ[ών] οβ'. oF a cellar-door. The top of the stone
has been broken off. Height 75 cm.;
i. e , {son) of cAmir. width 3° cm· Height of letters 5-8 cm.

762. Lintel. Built into the wall of a modern building which faces on an enclosure
adjacent to the medafeh of Shekh Ahmed Hadjari. Length 1.19 m.; height 25 cm.
The lower right corner has been cut away. The inscription is within a raised dove-
tailed frame, which has raised rosettes in the dovetails. Inside length of the frame
37 cm.; height iff cm. Height of letters 21/s—3 cm.

/, Said, {son) of Kahhal (or Kakhalih), have built a memorial at my own expense
for Agrippinus, my son, {aged) 20 years.

The name Χααλος is not found elsewhere. M. Clermont-Ganneau has proposed
{R. A. O. iv, (1901), p. 120) to read XAAMOY, with AM perhaps in ligature, but our
copy confirms Professor Brunnow’s original reading. The numeral at the end of 1. 5
