WEAVING.
J^f our first article on cotton- manufactures are, described tlio various
processes by which cotton wool is brought into the shape of thread
fit for weaving and other purposes : we now proceed to give a general j
description of the machinery employed in weaving it into cotton-cloth ■ times, more particularly in the application of watcr-pow
or calico. Although we have taken cotton as the most important of our i place of hand labour.

peculiarities in the manufactures of these articles will be treated of sub-
sequently under their several heads. -
The act of weaving is of very ancient date; it is attributed to the Egyp-
tians : but it has received great and important improvement in modern
