The différent décorative schools,
Which, in the bîginning of the
Revival of arts, haJ fprung from
very diffimilar ideas, after wor-
king together towards the iniddle
of the xvi"' Century, feem to re-
bondie themfelves one with ano-
ther. The Compartment décora-
tion drawn from the ancientara-
biques and put in favour by
the Italian mafters of the fchool
of. Fontainebleau (gallery ot
Francis the Firft, emblems and
mottoes by Rufcelli, engraved by
Domenico Zenci, &c), was the
band of this tendency, and took
an important development in
F land.ers.The fchool of Antwerp
(p. 25) diftinguifhed itfelf above
all others in thÏ3 new path,
which was to give birth to the
Palatinates fchool (Th. de Bry,
Vriefe, Joli Amann, Dietterlin :
palaces of Heidelberg, Stuttgard,
Munich, &c). We borrow to-day
from our private collection one
of the panels "pi the rare and
precious leries of décorative
Works by Jacobus Floris. They
were engraved by Hier. Cock
(p. i3) and edited in Antwerp,
during the "year 1567 under the
title of Compertimenta piâoriis
flojculis manubiifque bellicis va-

Parties de points de vue bien
différents à l'origine de la Renais-
fance des arts, les différentes
Ecoles décoratives femblent, à la
fuite du travail commun, tendre
vers un rapprochement au milieu
du xvie fiècle. La Décoration à
compartiments, puifée dans les
arabefques antiques, & mife en
faveur par les maîtres italiens de
l'École de Fontainebleau (galerie
de François I«, emblèmes & de-
vifes de Rufcelli, gravés par Do-
menico Zenci, &c), fut le lien
de cette tendance, & prit notam-
ment un grand développement
dans les Flandres. L'École d'An-
vers furtout (p. 25) fe diftingua
dans cette voie nouvelle qui de-
vait donner naiffance à l'École du
Palatinat (Th. de Bry, Vriefe,
.loft Amann, Dietterlin : châteaux
de Heidelberg, Stuttgard, Mu-
nich, &c). — Nous empruntons
aujourd'hui à notre colleflion
particulière un des panneaux
de la rare & curieufe fuite des
œuvres décoratives de Jacques
Floris, gravées par Jér. Cock
(p. l3) & éditées par ce dernier
à Anvers en 1567 fous le titre :
Compertimenta piâoriis flojcu-
lis, manubiifque bellicis varie-
