Sur le littoral méridional de la mer Noire, à mi-côte du cap
de rochers qui porte fur fes deux verfants la vilie de Kéréfoun
l'ancienne CéraConte du royaume de Pont), s'élève le Palais
du pacha gouverneur, dont la décoration intérieure date du
xvne fiècle. — Nous faifons part à nos lecteurs d'une Cheminée
deffinée dans ce palais, en i 847, par M. Jules Laurens, lors de fon
voyage en Perfe avec feu Hommaire de Hell. — Tout l'enca-
drement central de celte cheminée eft en pierre dure grifàtre,
de la nature du granit. La décoration du manteau & des deux
ba; côtés ornés de niches eft en plâtre moulé St vivement retou-
ché à l'outil. L'ensemble eft encadré dans les parements en boi-
ferie des murs, dont tout le pourtour inférieur ed garni de divans
&. de couffins. — Le climat du pays exigeant fouvent une flamme
vive &. prompte, on fait du feu dans ces cheminées à la manière
perfane, en plaçant le combudible, bûches & fagots, verticale-
ment appuyés fur leur pied, & l'inflammation fe produit au moyen
d'herbes fèches aromatiques. — (Inédit.)

On the Southern coad of the Black Sea, half height Rock Cape,
on the two fides of which the city of Kerefoun (ancient Cera-
fonta of the Pontus kingdom) is built, rifes the governor
pacha's palace. The interior décoration of tins monument
dates from the xvn"1 Century. — We give hère copy of a
Chimney drawn in the palace in 1847 by Mr. Jules Laurens
during bis travel through Perfia with late Hommaire de Hell.
— This chimney's entire central frame is of a hard greyifh done
fomevvhat refembling granité. The décoration of the mantel
and of the two aides ornamented with niches is moulded plader-
work vigoroudy touched with the tool. The whole is fitted
in the wooden facings of the walls, the circumference of which
is garnifhed with divans and cufhions. — The climate of this
country demanding often a fpeedy and bright dame, the fire is
i ' lit in thefe chiinneys as in Perfia, by placing the combudible, logs.
or fagots, vertically. The inflammation is then eafily oblained
by means of dry aromatic herbs. — (Unedited.)
