objecta are decorated,
are contrivances than
which nothing can be
botter, and of an exqui-
site style, yet without
déviation from the regu-
lar and but everywhere
geometrical forms. In
the upper figure an es-
cutcheou is seen with
the flowers-de-luce of
France, and which is
cappod with a crown,
being an indication that
theobjeefs ownermight
hâve been a person of
royal descent.
In the lower figure
onemayreadthemotto:
Pour bien je le done.
That device is disposed
upon full parts forming
the backs of small mir-
rors which existbehind
the object and take one

gère. Les découpures,
si étrangement riches,
qui décorent ces deux
objets, sont on ne peut
mieux combinées et
d'un goût exquis, sans
sortir toutefois des for-
mes régulières et pres-
que partout géométri-
ques. Dans la figure du
haut nous remarquons
un écusson aux fleurs
de lis de France, sur-
monté d'une couronne,
indiquant que l'objet
a pu appartenir à quel-
que personnage d'ori-
gine royale.
Dans la figure infé-
rieure on lit la devise:
Pour bien je le done.
Cette devise est dis-
posée sur des parties
pleines qui servent de
fonds à de petits mi-
roirs placés à moitié
de l'épaisseur du bois.
Le même fait est à
