Plaque émaillée attribuée à }Jcan Ier Penicaud, un des
maîtres de cette brillante école limousine qui nous a valu
tant de chefs-d'œuvre en ce genre. Elle représente l'adoration
des Mages. La Vierge est assise à gauche, à l'entrée d'un
palais (véritable anachronisme) d'une architecture fabuleuse-
ment riche. L'n des rois est agenouillé devant la Vierge et
l'Enfant-Dieu. Les deux autres debouts et vêtus d'un costume
du temps tiennent en mains leurs présents. La suite nombreuse
des Mages apparaît dans le fond.
Les émaux sont très-colorés; les chairs violet foncé. — Fonds
de métal avec rehauts d'or par places.

An enamelled plate attributed to Jean Ier Panicaud, one of the
masters of lhat brilliant Limosin school to which we owe so
rr.any marvels of that kind. It represents the Adoration of the
viise men of the East. The Virgin is seatcd on the left and at.
the entrance of a palace with an architecture as rich as the
whole is contrary to the truth. One of the kings is kneeling
before the Virgin and the Infant-God. The two others, standing
up and clothed wjth garments of the epoch, hold présents in
their hands. The numerous train of the Magi appears in the
lacl-ground.
The çnamels are high-coloured ; the flesh is of a dtep violet.
