Le Brun triomphait dans la décoration des plafonds. On peut
facilement s'en convaincre en visitant les galeries de Versailles
et, à Paris, celle de l'hôtel Lambert. Le dessin original est beau-
coup plus grand que notre gravure, Le trait à la plume en est
ferme, correct, sans hésitation, et le modelé obtenu par un lavis
à l'encre de Chine. La partie centrale et principale du plafond
est, comme sur notre gravure, indiquée seulement : ce beau
dessin n'a pas été achevé.

Le Brun triumphedin the décoration of ceilings •— a fact that
must be brought home to every onc who visits the galleries of
Versailles and that of the Hôtel Lambert, in Paris. The original
design is much larger than our cngraving. The drawing done
with the pen, is flrm, correct, without hésitation, and the sha-
ding is obtained by tinting with Indian ink. The central and
principal part of the ceiling is, as in our cngraving, merely
indicated. This bcautiful drawing was never finished.
