from ideological premises.8 In justifying this connection the art historians based greatly on the
opinion, expressed for the first time by Pinder, that the Pieta visualizes the Lament of the
Virgin mourning over dead Son. Hence, it was inferred that also God the Father in the image
under discussion is shown in His grief caused by Passion and death of Jesus. Sometimes, the
group of God the Father with Christ was described as a vanant of the Lament of the Virgin9
or even as Compassio Pałris.10 In such an anthropomorphisation of the Soteriological content
