altar of Christ.34 The formuła of St Paul fir.ds its parallel in the canlicum of Isaias on the servant
of Jahve: Dominus tradidit eum pro peccatis nostris.3' The Master of the Bsrlin Passion in his
engravir;gs compared twice the sacrifice effered by Abraham to the sacrifice of God the Father.
God the Father is shown supporLing His Son, Who kneels upon the cross, and pointing to Him
with the finger of His right hrnd. He addresses the bcholder with the words of St Paul's
Epistle to the Romans: Proprio filio non peperci, written on a scroll.26 The painter, active at the
elose of the XVth century in Silesia, exccuted in 1492 r.n cpitaph of a sacristan cf St Elisabeth's
