Museum of the Poster in Wilanów (fig. 5)
On June 4, was inaugurated the Museum of the Poster, the first of its kind in the world. This
Museum whose keeper is Janina Fijałkowska is the branch of the National Museum in Warsaw
and is housed in a modern pavillion with an exhibition hall and projection hall, adapted from
two XIX-th century buildings: a riding school and a coach-house in the park of the Wilanów
palące. The Museum has its own stores for the collection, conservation laboratory and rooms
for research work. The task of the Museum is to collect, kcep, conserve, study Polish and foreign
posters and make the public acąuainted with them by organizing home and foreign exhibitions.
Press and photographic documentation is being collected as well. The exhibition in the Museum
is of a changing charactcr. The collection contains 15500 Polish and foreign posters. Each exhi-
bition is supplemented by films about posters and short films made by artists working on
posters. On the opening day two exhibitions connected with the 2-nd International Poster Bien-
nale in Warsaiv were presented: Exhibition of works of prizewinners at the 1-st Poster Biennale:
Kazumasa Nagai, Hiroshi Tanaka (Japonia) and Jan Lenica (Poland): Posthumous exhibition
of the works of Wojciech Zamecznik (1923—1967), a Polish graphic artist, set designer, photo-
grapher, interior decorator and film consultant. During the exhibition films made by W. Za-
mecznik and J. Lenica were presented.
Exhibitions organized by the National Museum in Warsaw in
other Polish Museums:
Dhdsions of Ancient Art, Polish Painting, Modern Art and Polish Graphic Art organized about
20 exhibitions of educational character in yarious places in Poland.
