Theodora Holland-Brederode, a daughter of the mentioned Dutch Field-Marshal. This
wedding might have been an occasion for commissioning from P. Nason several family por-
traits of the Dolina and the Brederode, three of which are in MMO (cf. cat. Nos. 3 and 4),
farther four in the posession of the City Council at Vianen.

g) The painting has been a subject of a separate study1. According to K. Wróblewska the
painting was executed shortly before 1650. A. Dobrzycka admired its high technical qualitya.

h) The hypothetieal history of the painting is based on the information from several sources:
the generał history of the Dohna coli. at Vianen, Słobite (Schlobitten) and Gładysze (Schlo-
dien): S. Dohna, Auszugsweise Mittheilungen aus den Familiengeschichtlichen Schriften die
Donins und die Dohna's, Berlin, 1887, p. 37 ff; also — C. Grommelt, Ch. Mertens, Das
Dohnasche Schloss Schlobitten in Ost-preussen, Sttuttgart, 1962, p. 381 ff; also — G. Conrad,
Das Schloss Schlodien, s. 1. 1905, p. 341 ff. Certainly this applies also to the other two paint-
ings in MMO, belonging to the group of portraits by Nason at Vianen. At present at Vianen
remained only: Portrait of George Nassau-Siegen (?), sign.: PN, Portrait of a Man from the
Brederode Family, sign.: "PN 1644" (at Vianen as a Portrait of Johan Grysperre van Cor-
guelmonde), Portrait of a Man, sing. PNason, 1644, Portrait of Wolfred Holland-Brederodes
sign. (?). The disscused portrait draws attention by its soft modelling of the face, glowing
eyes and lips, careful elaboration of details in clothing and jewelry, typical for this,
artist. The composition resembles some works from G. Honthorst's workshop, what helps
to place the date of its execution between 1642 and 1647. At this time the impact of
Honthorst on Nason grew significantly. The exact date should be established as 1644-
following the date of a portrait of Wilhelminę van Waldeck in the Wredowsche Kunst,
sammlung Brandenburg (down to 1945), signed "PN 1644" identical in the composition,
technicjue and of a similar size (37 X 28 cm.).
