The preserved engravings, however, are not included in the inventory by Albertrandy. Perhaps
it is due to the peculiarity of their subject and difficulties in classification.30 The first known
evidence concerning the engravings dates back to later period, i.e. tragic days of reprisal after
the supression of the November Rising. On November 9th, 1832, the confiscation of the col-
lection, which formed the property of the Warsaw TJniversity sińce 181731 was decided upon.
The curator of the collections, Jan Feliks Piwarski and professor of painting Antoni Blank,
on the list of engravings and drawings certified the act of transmission of "Aleksander's Cabinet"
to the Russian commissioner, Werneck32. The act was accompanied by voluminous inventory
following the order of artists' names. This inventory mentioned also the engravings by Smug-
lewicz. Piwarski's inventory was repeated by Mikołaj Utkin in 1843. The position number 120

voluminous and detailed catalogue of the collection which enumerated Smuglewicz's drawings and cngravings of Etruscan
tombs was presented to Warneck. I would like to express my gratitude to Mrs. E. Budzińska for valuable information
concerning history of the collection and the preserved rccords.
