Three Roman Mould-Blown Glasses
from the Michaf Tyszkiewicz and
Goiuchów Collections
The National Museum in Warsaw possesses a rich collection of antique
glass.1 A very valuable part of this collection is that of Izabela Dzialynska of
the Czartoryskis (1830-1899)2 from Goiuchów which was carried away by
the Germans during the Second World War and retrieved from the Russians
in 1956.3 Unfortunately, many invaluable exhibits were lost at this time or
have never been regained.4
The amassing of artistic objects by Izabela Dzialynska, daughter of Adam
Jerzy Czartoryski (1770-1861) was carried out in the tradition of trauma
and hope among the Polish émigré aristocracy centred around the Czartorys-
ki family’s Hôtel Lambert residence in Paris, the cult of national souvenirs,5
in particular the romantic and sentimental collection of “curiosités” original-
ly belonging to Izabela Czartoryska of the Flemmings (1746-1835) in
Pulawy.6
