Showing Construction of Bazaar at Aegae

In 1886, Richard Bohn,1 then the
architect of the excavations at Perga-
mon, investigated a building at Aegae,
an ancient site about fifty miles from
Assos and twenty miles south of Per-
gamon. This proved to be a market
building or bazaar, and seems to be sim-
ilar in plan and use to this building at
Assos. It had three stories, the lower
for shops, the middle for storage ; the
upper formed a stoa or portico opening
directly on the Agora, just as at Assos.
