Archaic Inscribed Column
shows what was found when the lids were removed. There
was about 4 cm. of fine dust beneath each skeleton. In No. 9
was a stone box which contained calcined human bones and
alongside the skeleton a corroded bronze strigil. In No. 10
was evidently the skeleton of a woman with a fragment of a
wooden comb. None of the sarcophagi contained anything
of particular interest, a few corroded coins with beads and
fragments of strigils.
