has 365 boys from 13 to 19. Drawing is compulsory in the Lower SAool on!y,

may be taken out of school hours as an optinal subject, generally for 2 hours,
but sometimes 4 hours. The marks assigned to drawing amount to anout of
the total Form marks. The general scheme is illustrated. The junior work in^
eludes outline from objects and from nature, memory work, colour and principles
of perspective. The higher work includes the study of more complicated forms,
light and shade, watercolours and memory. In the optinal classes the individual
bent and choice are considered, so that both subject and method of treatment vary.
The Gcdcdphin School, Salisbury,
an old endowed school, numbers about 160 girls, aged from 8 to 18, Drawing,
from 40 minutes to 2 hrs. per week No marks given, but class and individual
criticisms. The course in the summer term is Plant drawing, trees and outdoor
work,- the winter term, Pattern planned and design based on plants drawn in the
summer,- in the Spring, term. Model — life and objects. Sheet 1 shows planning
of pattern using coloured paper, brushwork and applied to material for embroi-
dery using stencil. Sheets 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 studies showing the use of trans-
parent colour on white paper and body colour on tinted or brown paper.
Sherborne School, "Vestcott Art School"
is a department of the Schco!. Number cf boys about 250 aged between 14 and
19. Drawing is obligatory in the Lower School 2 hrs. per week. Special in-
struction given to the „Army Class" and optional to others, in perspective,
light and shade, design, painting, archilcctural and mechanical drawing. The
marks for drawing in the Lower School have the same value as those given for
other subjects.
