First edition of the Germ.in translation by Michael Herr of the “Novus Orbis”.
Both Sabin and Trömel emphasize the great rarity of this edition which is said to be
even rarer than the original Latin edition of 1532. “The version is somewhat
broad, and is distinguished by a certain originality in expression. Although it has
no map, it has, on the other hand, the merit of being augmented in the text.
It contains a full translation of Peter Martyr’s decades, leaf 174—229, and also his
three books “De L-gatione Babylonica” 235 — 248, both wanting i n all the diffe-
rent Latin editions . . . It is curious that none of these differences have been
noted by Harrisse” (Sabin). Bottom margin of title-page carefully repaired.
