V p. 97. Palau y Dulcet V 401.
Fine copy of the rare original edition which was not reprinted until 1824 in Caracas.
Only this first part was published, the second being said to have been destroyed
by the aristocratic families of Venezuela on account of its containing the history of
their beginnings which were in many cases anything but aristocratic. In the opinion
of modern bibliographers, however, the second part, which was promised by the author,
was not printed at all. As to further details see Ari>t. Royas, leyendas histör. I p.
223 seq (“Resoluciôn de un mito bibliogrâtico” and Sanchez, bibliogr. Venezolanista,
note to no. 602).
The work seems to be a rather rare one. It was entirely om tted by Barcia in
his additions to the Biblioteca Pinelo. nor does it appear in Salva and Heredia, in
the Ramirez and Azevedo-Samodaes collections nor in the Church Catalogue. See
also Winsor, narrat. and crit. hist, of America II, p. 584 who emphasizes the rarity
of the work.
