Bimpooha one of the
moat learned lamas of
the 20th century passed
away on June, the 15th
at the age of H7 years
in the Palace Monastery
of Sikkim. Before he
passed away on Monday
the 15th June he enterad
into the last mtdit»tion
•nd tranoe, three days ear-
lier, on Friday the 12th
June. For nearly 72 hours,
he was aeated erect squat-
ting on the cushion and
remained all along in
that posture till death
oame on the 15th June
early morning.

The lama ia reputed
to be the reinoarnation
of Vimalamitra and waa
also supposed to have the
element of Hanjeahri, the
Lord of Wisdom , Ha
oame from Kham mid waa
the presiding Honk of a
Red Sect Monastery there.

The founder member
of the Sikkim Research
Institute of Tibetology,
he was resident in Sikkim
for the last three yeara.

Tsarong Shape one of
the wealthiest man in Tibet
died in Lhasa on last Sun-
day according 'to reports
reaching here.

Mr. Tsarong was one
of the seniormost progres.
sive .statesman of Tibet.
It was he who introduced
the postal and currency
systems in ibet and was
responsible for building first
steel bridge there:

During the flight of
the 13th Dalai Lama to
India in 1913 Mr. Tsarong
accompanied His Hoiness
and returned to Tibet to
become its Commander-in-
chief.

SOME NEPALESE IN
CUSTODY IN TIBET

Kathmandu, June 17
Some Nepalese, whose
number does not exceed
ten and who include some
business men and a few
Sherpas, are reported to
be in the custody of Chinese
authorities in connexion with
the recent rebellion in Lhasa

Sources in touch with
Tibet/in affairs said today
that Nepal's Consul-General
in Lhasa had been trving
to secure their release but,
besides being '"assured" by
the Chinese that their oases
would be considered, he
had been told that there
was no special law for
foreigners and that their
cases would be taken up
under the law of the land.
Reports from Lhasa sug-
gested that the Consul*
General, Col. U. B. Basy,
is on his way to Kath-
mandu on short leave in
connexion with some per-
sonal work.
