The main topio of
discussion in London and
other oapitals of the Wast
is the Eisenhower-Khrush-
chev exchange of visits,
and the proposed visil
of Ike to London and
Paris. The average man-
iu-tho-street who has ex-
perienced the terrors of
the last blood-bath, is
welooming this Big Two
meeting as "the begin-
ning of a new era." It
will undoubtedly be the
greatest international
avent of the post-War
era if there is understand-
ing between the two
greatest imperialist powers
of the world. I have
learned authoritatively
that President Elsenhower
will visit London on the
34th August. He will
visit Paris before that.
Meanwhile, in London the
Conservatives are making
the most of this Big Two
Conferenoe. They are pro-
claiming that Maomillan
is direotly and indireotly
responsible for the meet-
ing of the Big Two, fol-
lowed by Ike's meeting
with the heads of the
three Western Govern-
ments. Indeed, the Tories

slogans suoh as :- "Send
llao to the Sunrmit",
"Wonderful Mao the
1'eacernakrr" eto. The rest
of the people are giving
oredit to Vioe-President
Nixon for bringing about
this meeting of the two
statesmen. We are asked
to believe by the Tories
that this is due to "Won-
derful, nsiraole-werking,
superhuman, brighter-
than-wbite Mao." Some
of the Tories are even
telling us that Khrush-
chev's historic visit to
Washington will be due
to Macmillsn's white fur
hat which he wore during
his Mosoow trip. But
whatever the Tories claim,
Khrushchev is having a
frank talk with Qaitekell
and Bevan when they
arrive in Moscow on the
2'Jih August. In spite of
optimism on all sides,
however, it is not all
rosy, as Dr. Adenauer is
still adamant and De
Gaulle is still defiant.
