ASSAM TROUBLE

The Congress Work
ing Committee has ex-
pressed its distress at the
reoent occurences in Assam
which led to several deaths
and large scale arson and
looting. The . committee
has also warned that if
the normal apparatus of
the administration is not
adequate for the purpose,
special measures may be
taken by the Government
to prevent the possibility
of any recrudescenoe of
this violence.

The conditions in
Assam are improving but
the situation is not yet
normal. Those who ham
been driven away or have
been oompelled to leave
the State should be re-
habilitated soon.

Assam is a border
State. Whether the recent
trouble was only due to
language issue or some-
thing else should be en-
quired and proper mea-
sures should be taken.
