CONTEST SILIGURI SEAT
Siliguri, Jan 6
It has been learnt
that Gorkha League will
s«t up it* candidate for
Siliguri Assembly Consti-
tuency. The party is
likely to content Parlia-
ment aeat also but re-
ports regarding some sort
of seoret alliance between
the Congre»8 and Gorkha
League have been recei-
ved here. The report
Bays the Congress is try-
ing to get the support
of Gorkha League for the
Parliament seat. In return
the Congress will baok
the league candidate on
Durjeeling and Joreburi-
galow Assembly s-atB It
may be recalled here that
C'ougreBB has already an-
nounced the names of
their candidates from
these two constituencies.
If Congress will help lea-
gue, what will be the
fatev of Congress candida-
tes? What will the party
do for Kalimpong' seat ?

MAHARAJKUMAR ESCAPES
UNHURT
Gangtok, Jan. 6

The Maharajkumar of
Sikkim had a narrow
esoape when his oar collid-
ed with a truok near
Gangtok. The Maharaj-
kumar was on his way to
Darjeeling to attend the
lympoisum of Highaltitute
problems.

WEST NEPAL AIRFIELD
DAMAGED
Kathmandu, Jan, 4
An air field at Dang,
in west N«pal, is reported
to have been ploughed
up by unknown persons,
says. 1 he field, . which
provides fair weather land-
ing facility to Nepal's
internal planes, is said
to have been unserviceable.
It wax not in use these
days for regular commer-
cial flights.

TRIBAL WELFARE WORKS
The sub Divisional
Welfare Committee for'
the scneduled Tribes in
Darjeeling Sadar , sub-di-
vision met recently under
the Presidentship of Shri
B. Sengupta. Sub-divi-
sional Gfficer, Sad ir, Dar-
jeeling. Proposal of dif-
ferent schemes suoh as
minor irrigation scheme,
grain gola, drinking water
supply were discussed.

The Committee re-
commended a drinking
water supply for Srikhola
at a cost of Rs. 8,000/-,
establishment of a Graiu-

tezt it is only the Cong-
ress whioh can provide a
stable and efficient Govern-
ment in the country." It
appealed to people to
support the Congress in
the cuming election. .

Their support in the
next elections, the resolu-
tion said, was neoesaary
to enable the Congress
to fulfil the "historic
mission" which the people
of India with all their
wisdom and faith bad
assigned to it..

"The Congress stands
committed to making the
country's economy self-
relient and aohiviog a
living standard whioh
would make poverty and
ignorance things of the
past.

The resolution asked
for people's support in
the elections also on the
. plea that if the Third
Plan had to be success-
ful! implemented, a stable
and efficient administration
would be absolutely neces-
sary. It said it bad brtn
possible to implement the
last two plans because of
people's cooperation aod
the support they gave the
Congress by returning it
to power.
