On January 26th, 1980
Cengress took a pledge
for the liquidation of the
•lien regime. This pledge
to hare freedom was ta-
ken by the people year
after year from 1930 to
1947. The country became
free after a hard struggle
under the leadership of
Mahatma Gandhi.
On January 26th 1900,
the Constitution came into
foroe. The directive prin-
ciples of State polioy as
embodied in the Consti-
tution lay speoial stress on
the goal of welfare State
It is incombent upon
the State to strive for
■souring alloitizens justice-
social, eoonomio and poli-
tical, liberty of thought &
expression, belief, faith &
worship, equality of Ma-
tin and of opportunity
and for promoting them
all fraternity assuring the
dignity of the individual
& unity of the nat on.
On this historical day
let us all give a serious
thought to the oall for
unity made by ' Dr. 8..

ART EXHIBITION AT
KAUMPONG
An Art exhibition was
organised by the looal
students at the Town
Hull on 26th & 27th
January. The exhibition
was opened by Captain
D. C. Mookerjee, S.D.O
Kalimpong in presence of
a distinguished gathering,.
The whole show was or-
ganised by sohool students
and it attract'd a big
crowd on both the days.
Some of the paintings of
I. B. Subba and R. ( hou-
dhuri were excellent and
these were greatly appre-
ciated by all. Sri Mooker-
jee, distributed the prizes
on 27th ar d sp aking on
the occasion be praised
the students who took
initiative in organising the
exhibition and wished them
success. I. B. Subbs, R.
Choudhuri, and R Ban-
thia took the leading part
for making the exhibition
a success. .
KALIMPONG CELEBRATES
REPUBLIC DAY
Kalimpong, Jan. 26
Inspite of very bad
weather today the Repub-
lic Day was celebrated
here with usual enthusiasm.
Prabbat Pheri was taken
out early in the morning.
By 8 am. National flags
were seen hoisted on nearly
every building.
At 9 a. m. the national
flag was unfurled at the
Mela ground by Capt.
D. C. Mookerjee, S. D. 0 ,
Kalimpong who also took
the salute. He later ins-
pected a guard of honour
presented by the Pol ce,
N.C.C. & Ex-servioemen.
Speaking on the occa-
sion Captain Mookerjee
paid homage to Mahatma
Gandhi, (he father of the
nation who led the free-
dom struggle and made
the freedom possible. He
made a reference to our
democratic constitution,
whioh basgiven us equality
of status and opportunity,
assuring the dignity of the
individual and the unity
of the nation He appealed
to all to make the country
a plaoe worthy to live.
After AH Faiths Prayer
meeting, wreaths were
laid on Martyrs Memorial
by different organisations
and individuals.
Dooumentry films were
shown to school children
at both the Cinema
Houses.
