eites for tourist lodges in
Darjeeliug and Kalimpong.

It ia understood that
the committee has tenta-
tively selected a luxurious
building at Kalimpong,
oapable of ncooimnoduting
24 tourists at a time.

In Darjeeling ooos-
truotion of a building
adjoining the Gymkhana
Club will begin soon. It
is understood that the
club has agreed to pro-
vide boarding to lodgtrs
who will be free to partici-
pate in indoor and out-
door games.

EXPEDITION

Seventeen high alti"
tuda Sherpas, handpicked
by Tenzing Norgay. left
for Jaynagar an the Indo-
Xepalese border this morn-
ing to join the second
Indian Everest expedition
led by Major John Diss.
Among them is the vete-
ran Ang Tharkey, who
retired a few years ago
after gaining international
repute aa . a Himalayan
guide and sirdar. He has
been persuaded by Tenzing.
to undertake the trip..

The Indian team is
expected to leave Jaynagar
for a fortnight's trek to
Namdhe Bazar on Feb- '
ruary 17 and will make
its attempt on Everest
on the route taken by
the previous Indian ex-
pedition under Brig Gyan
Singh.

Col. B. 8. Jaswal,
Principal designate, Hima-
layan Mountaineering Ins-
titute, is seeing the team
off at Jaynagar on be-
half of the institute.
