CHINESE ATTACK 1NDSAN POST AT NEFA

Both Sidss Admit Casualties

New Delhi, September 21

The Chinese soldiers
who intruded into NEFA
last week attacked an
Indian post last night.
In the clash that followed,
tbrse Indian Boldiers were
wounded.

The news of the
NEFA olash was officially
disolosed today. The la-
test reportB reaching Delhi
stated that intermittent
firing by the Chinese bad
oontinued until this morn-
ing.

Although the location
nf the posts mentioned
by Peking Radio and the
spokesman of the Exter-
na! Affairs Ministry vary
slightly, both statements
presumably refer to the
same clash last night.
According to Peking Radio
a Chinese officer was kil-
led and a soldier wounded.

Two Chinese soldiers,
the External Affairs Mi-
nistry spokesman said,
crept up to an Indian
post, two miles east of
the post at Dhola. at

about 9 30 p.m. last night
and threw several hand-
grenades at it. When the
Indian soldiers fired Verey
lights they saw e fairly
substantial number of
Chinese within a few hund.
red yards of the post.

After the volley of
hand-grenades the Chinese
fired. The Indian post
returned the fire
' Beyond saying it was
two miles to the east of
Dhola. the official spokes
man would not disclose
any details of the location
of the post which was
attacked last night and is
presumably still undpr
Chinese fire. But since
the Dhola post is about
two miles from theThag la
ridge which forms the
border and the ridge runs
east to north-west the
menace ! post is probably
further, inside Indian ter-
ritory than the Dhola po*t.

The Chinese Embassy
was handed a strong note
protest this evening,

The Sew China n*s;
agency giving the Peking
version of the incident
said: -'The situation at
present has reached a
most critical point an-.t
the flame of war may
flare up at the Chfcdong
(Dhola. area''.
