C.P.I. ENDORSES STEPS TO
DEFEND BORDER
New Delhi. Oct- 17
The Secretariat of the
Communist Party oflndia
tonight expressed "grave
concern at the Eerious
happenings" on the KEFA
border and said that the
party had always main-
tained that the McMahot
Line was the border ■{
India and all necessary
steps to deft-ud it wei'e
justified.

At the same time,
the secretariat, which con-
cluded its three-day meet-
ing here today, in a 200-
word resolution, referred
to the National Council's
resolution passed at Hy-
derabad, in whioh it had
lent support to the Go-
vernment's efforts at ne-
gotintotis while taking
necessary steps for the
defence of the borders.

Th» resolution was
however, vague as to
whether the Chinese had
actually committed ag-
aression in tha NEb'A
area an J violated the
Mediation Line

I* rt-iid: ''Reports of
l> p Government of India
show that Chinese forces
have cr- ss-d to the south
of th» McMal-on Line and
hove thus violated Indian
t-rritory. though the Chi-
nese deny it.*'

The secretarint, in its
resolution, said chat the

eastern border bad been
comparatively free from
disturbances, especially in
view of the fact that
there bad existed the
MeMahon Line, a vir-
tually ditniircatird border
lice," between India and
China. "I hue one least
expected serious differen-
ces and clashes oil the
^Mahou Line," it added.
