A book illustration from the Romance of Amir Hamzab painted in the early years of the reign oJAkbar
the Great (i556-1605) by an unknown artist trained in the style of the Timurid school and illuminated
probably by Mir Sayyid Ali of Tabriz. Amir Hamzah, whose eventful life is the subject of a Persian
romance of unknown authorship, was an uncle of the Prophet Muhammad.
