Head of the Department of Mediaeval Art History.
He held this post until the 30 Sept. 2006.
16 December - Piotr Krasny obtained a doctor’s degree;
Prof. Ostrowski was the supervisor.
1995
Dr. Tomasz Gryglewicz was nominated Head of the
Department of Modern and Contemporary Art
History.
13 January - Dr. M. Fabiahski obtained a postdoctoral
degree on the basis of a dissertation Correggio and
sacra conversazione.
9 March - Prof. Kalinowski was elected chairman of the
re-established Commission on Art History of the
Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences which forms
a part of the I Philological Class.
7 April - Teresa Rodzińska-Chorąży obtained a doctor’s
degree.
1 October - Dr. Krasny was promoted to the post of
adjunct professor in the Department of Early
Modern Art History.
1 October - A Section of Research on the Art of the
Eastern Borderlands of the Former Polish Common-
wealth was created. Prof. Jan K. Ostrowski became
Head of the Section, whereas his co-workers were,
among others: Dr. Andrzej Betlej (1999-2002), Dr.
Katarzyna Brzezina (2000-2006) and Michał Ku-
rzej M.A. (since Oct. 2006).
1 October - Dr. Jacek Purchla obtained the title of
professor.
30 December - A Department of City Studies was
created. Prof. Jacek Purchla became head of the
Section, whereas Dr. Zbigniew Beiersdorf became
his co-worker (since 1996 he held the post of
assistant).
1996
Dr. Gryglewicz was elected director of the Institute of
Art History (he held this post until 1999). At that
time, Dr. Fabiahski held the post of deputy director
for student affairs.
23 February - Małgorzata Smorąg Różycka obtained
a doctor’s degree.
22 August - T. Witkowska-Zychiewicz died.
1 October - Dr. Rodzińska-Chorąży was promoted to the
post of adjunct professor. A Section of History of
Early Mediaeval Architecture began its operation.
Prof. J. Gadomski became its head, whereas T.
Rodzińska-Chorąży was his co-worker (since 1
Oct. 2005, head of the Section), and since 2002
Aneta Bukowska M.A. has co-operated with the
Section.
6 December - Prof. Gadomski received an award of the
Foundation for Polish Science (FNP) in the field of
humanities and social sciences.
Since the year f 996 until 1998, The Getty Grant Program
for the purchase of books was being realized in the
Institute for the first time.
1997
Prof. Kalinowski was elected to the post of Director
of I Philological Class of the Polish Academy of Arts
and Sciences.
Ass. Prof. Małkiewicz became deputy editor of the
journal Folia Historiae Artium (since the year 2000,
he has been the editor of the journal).
4 February - Death of Prof. Piotr Krakowski.
12 April - Dr. W. Balus obtained his postdoctoral degree
on the basis of a book Mundus melancholicus.
Melancholiczny świat w zwierciadle sztuki [Mundus
Melancholicus. The Melancholy World as Reflected
in the Mirror of Art].
7 May - Prof. Kalinowski was awarded the Herder Prize
(Gottfried-von-Herder-Preis) at the University of
Vienna; Sławomir Skrzyniarz M.A. became his
bursary holder.
12 May - Prof. Gadomski obtained “Laur Jagielloński”
(Jagiellonian Laurel), a prize granted by the Rector
of the Jagiellonian University.
19-27 May - Within the CEEPUS university co-
operation scheme, a series of lectures entitled The
Art of Central Europe Around the Year 1900 took
place in the Institute (lecturers: Pal Ritoók, Katalin
Keserii, Andras Hadik, Dana Borutova, Jan Bakoś).
21 June - Prof. Anna Różycka Bryzek was elected
corresponding member of the Polish Academy of
Arts and Sciences.
7 July - Dr. M. Fabiański was appointed deputy director
of the Royal Wawel Castle.
1 August - Prof. Gadomski obtained the title of full
professor.
27-28 November - An academic session Centenary of the
Polish Artists Society “Sztuka ” was organized in the
Institute (in co-operation with the Consulate
General of the Republic of Austria in Cracow).
1998

1 February - Dr. M. Smorąg Różycka was employed as
adjunct professor in the Department of Byzantine Art.
26 March-24 April - Dr. Jolanta Załuska (Centre
National de la Recherche Scientifique, Paris)
delivered a series of guest lectures entitled Gospel in
the Moralized Bible.
20 April-6 June - Within the framework of guest lectures
organized by the Polish-German Academic Society,
Dr. Sibylle Appuhn-Radtke (Munich) delivered
a series of lectures.
1 October - Krystyna Czerni M.A. was employed in the
Institute’s library on the post of a librarian (till 30
Oct. 2000, and then starting from 1 Oct. 2004).
23 October - Marek Walczak received doctor’s degree in
humanities. Prof. J. Gadomski was the supervisor.
