E The natural cause of the scarcity of rain, in
the inland parts of Egypt, is, I imagine, the clry-
ness of the sands, which do not assord sufficient
rnoisture for forming clouds and descending in rains.
For doctor Shaw observes, that upon the coast,
from Alexandria, all along to Damiata and Tineh,
they have their former and latter rains, as in Bar-
oary and the Holy Land. Doctor Shaw has added
