A DENARIUS OF TRAJAN FOUND...

the Institute of Archaeology of the Jagiellonian University, it is a find which is
fairly characteristic of Przeworsk culture settlement sites. The denarii of Trajan
and Hadrian constituted, for instance, a significant group among the Roman coins
discovered at the settlement of Jakuszowice,12 but they are known from other
sites as well.13 What sets the settlement at Kryspinów apart is the discovery of
a Celtic stater, which it would be difficult to link to the inflow of Roman coins from
the Imperial period. The well-preserved condition of the documented denarius may
indicate that it madę its way into the territory of the Barbaricum at a relatively
early time. It should be noted that the above-mentioned denarius of Hadrian is
only slightly wom down. Considering the absence of a greater number of coins
documented in the area of the settlement, it is better to be cautious on this particular
ąuestion. It is also worth recalling that at least one of the previously mentioned
denarii of Marcus Aurelius (found in the 19th century) was described as wom-out
and for this reason indecipherable.14
