KRYSTYNA GAŁECKA

FELIKS JASIEŃSKI IN THE WARSAW,
LVOV AND CRACOW CIRCLES
S u m m a r y
Feliks Jasieński (1861-1929), pen-name Manggha, was one of the outstan-
ding figures of the years 1890-1929. After many travels ans studies abroad he
returned to his country as an owner of precious collections. He spent most of his
life in Cracow, where he was known as an exhibition organizer, an editor of graphic
art series and first of all as a sharp-tongued reviewer and keen collector. In Jasień-
ski^ tastefully arranged fiat on the corner of Rynek and Św. Jana Street the elite of
the Young Poland gathered and musical evenings and long discussions on every
subject connected with art took place there. Manggha-Jasieński was on friendly
terms with a lot of artists, he collected their works and rendered his collection
accessible for them. In 1920 he gave his collection to the National Museum in Cra-
cow. The Jasieński collection (ca 15000 pieces) is a priceless treasure comprising
among others a splendid set of Japanese woodcuts, paintings by Polish modernists,
robe-belts, carpets and furniture.
