The line ol'snow peaks, from 19,000 to 20,000 Eng’l. feet in height, is the southern liniit of the snowy range of the Western Hiraalaya. The afrrupt aitd precipitous break in the general inclination of the raoun
tains, al the sarae Jevcl on both sides of the Satlej valley, is the effeet of erosion, and represents a very general form of Himalayan valleys. Rarnpur itself, the chief place of tlie IIiII Stale of Bisser, lies
behind the tcrraee on which stands the sraall native fort. The Jarge magnolia trees in the foreground are in- full blossora.
