“ SPANISH GIRL WITH A
FAN.” (PORCELAIN)
BY ANTONIO PEYRO
which few people respond with enthusiasm.
These studies in porcelain may be com-
paratively trivial, but can be very enter-
taining and attractive, with a definite value,
moreover, as decorative objects. There is an
interest in comparing Sr. Peyro’s work with
the productions of other sculptor-potters
in this country and abroad. Of late years a
number of clever artists have been attracted
by this pleasant branch of art, exploring its
possibilities with results of considerable in-
terest. Few of the minor arts have pro-
gressed so happily and spontaneously, and
one feels that a discriminating collector,
with an eye to future values, might well
be tempted by the attractive fare offered.
Many of these gay and witty essays would
be delightful possessions in any cultured
household, occupying an attractive and
legitimate place in the domestic scheme of
art-lovers to whom scuplture, in the
general acceptance of the term, appeals in
vain. 0 0 0 0 0 0

LAIN FIGURES. 0000
WE illustrate herewith some charming
little decorative figures in coloured
and glazed pottery by a Spanish craftsman,
Sr. Dn. Antonio Peyro. The modelling is
rhythmic and expressive and bears witness
to the artist's sense of humour and keen
observation of type and character. The in-
timate and human appeal of these miniature
figures is on a different plane from that of
serious sculpture, executed with academic
dignity, on the grand scale, in accordance
with the accepted canons of an art form to
