long, 5 cm wide, 2.5 cm thick (Fig. 7). They
are heavy, their blades are sharp, and they can
cut down shrubbery, as the tool for reclaim-
ing wastelands.
Stone adzes: They were found at some
sites, e.g. one adze in Jiahu site, trapezoid,
with a one-side blade, 7.4 cm long, 4 cm

wide, 1.8 cm thick (Fig. 8) (MCCRH, 1988).
Like axes, they can cut timber also.
Stone spades: They are common objects in
the Peiligang Culture. Their bodies are thin,
with blades like tongues, many of them pol-
ished very exquisitely. The double-arc-bladed
