Lundgaardshede; yoke. K-800: 2380±100 BP;
cal.years 400 BC; 760-380 BC cal. ± 1 st.d.
Wood of maple from a draught yoke found
during peat cutting in a depression in a bog,
Bredmose at Lundgaardshede, Gammelstrup
Parish, Fjends District, Viborg County,
North Jutland, Denmark. Found together
with other not preserved wooden objects;
collected in 1947. Submitted 1961 by Skive
Museum, where it is now situated. The yoke
had been treated with linseed oil prior to dat-
ing. The sample was therefore split and the
cellulose and the lignin parts were extracted.
Their fractions dated separately.

Lignin fraction: 2320T100 BP
Cellulose fraction: 2230T100 BP
(Fenton 1974, 71, 73; Fenton 1986; Lerche
1968, 67). Fig. 20.
Mammen; ard. K-1242: 1830± 100 BP;
cal.years 220 AD; 80-340 AD cal. ± 1 st.d.
Wood of oak (Quercus sp.) from a 251 cm
long beam of an ard found during peat cut-
ting in 1953 in a bog in Mammen Parish, Mid-
delsom District, Viborg County, Jutland,
Denmark. The ard had been treated with pre-
servatives and prior to dating these were ex-
tracted. The lignin fraction was purified and
dated separately. Sample RAM 5502; SHg
733; NM VIII A 3912. Submitted by
