Wood of alder (Alnus glutinosa) from a
draught yoke found 1941 in the bog of Knud-
mose, Herning Parish, Hammerum District,
Ringkobing County, West Jutland, Denmark.
The 160 cm long object was placed obliquely
but pointing downwards in the soil with its
upper end c. 1 m beneath the surface. The
sample had been treated with preservatives.
The lignin part was purified and dated. The
yoke is in Herning Museum Mus.No. HEM
51/41. Sample Hg 22349, 22350. NM VIII A

Wood (not identified) from a sample of a
branch lying in excavation trench B 11 in Oc-
tober 1975 in the Kuk Tea Research Station,
The Mt Hagen area, Papua New Guinea. It
lay across one of the irrigation ditches, which
was part of the drainage and irrigation system
for sweet potato cultivation. The sample was
taken beneath a layer of ashes (z) and just
above the position of a paddle shaped wooden
spade, length 284 cm, breath 15 cm. Sample:
Kuk 1975, c 235, Drain B 12 c/d. Hg 21750.
