La décoration générale de la pièce fe compofe de panneaux
de tapifferie encadrés par de fortes moulures dont l'enfemble
forme un lambris de hauteur ; le tout, compris la cheminée, pa-
rait devoir être exécuté en chêne fculpté. Cette difpofition donne
beaucoup de févérité à un intérieur.
Le cadre de la cheminée contient un fujet de peinture ; le
motif du cartouche en fonte formant contre-cœur eft l'enlève-

This drawing belongs, among the works of J. Lepautre } to a
feries of fix great Fire places, and its compofitions feem to fuit
a Ihidy-room or a library.
The gênerai feenery of this room confifts of pannels with
tapeftry, inferted in large mouldings, the whole of which forms
a high lining. It appears that the whole, with the chimney, they
OUght to exécute it in fculptured oak-wood. This arrangement
gives a great feverity to an interior.
The frame of the chimney contains a fketch of drawing ; the
medallion, made of caft iion, which forms the chimney-back,
reprefents the rape of Proferpina. — (Fac-fimile.)
