(époque de louis xiv.) en bois de noyer.

Ce cartouche est le sommet d'un riche cadre contenant le,
portrait de l'amiral de Longueville, grand amiral de France, fils
naturel de Louis XIV. Le travail semble avoir été sculpté un peu
sec pour recevoir la dorure.
Les Auguier ont travaillé pour la duchesse de Longueville et
cttte circonstance permet, jointe à d'autres considérations,
d'attribuer ce cartouche à l'un d'eux. Le motif central est en-
touré du cordon des ordres de Saint-Michel et du Saint-Esprit.
Le captif africain, enchaîné à la base, est une allusion au siège
d'Alger fait par l'amiral.
Le soldat qui fait face est un souvenir de guerres euro-
péennes. (A moitié de l'exécution.)

portrait of Admirai de Longueville, High Admirai of France,
natural son of Louis XIV. There seenis a drynoss in the exé-
cution of the sculpture, as if it was intended to he gilt.
