23. Genoa, Museo di Sant’Agostino, so called Madonna di Pera

church on 16 December 1461, as part of the action of evacuating the furnishings of the
Latin churches of Pera. Unfortunately, on 14 May 1878, the thieves who sneaked into the
church, destroyed the painting itself and cut up its silver dress. A little later, the parish
priest, Rev. Tommaso Campo-Antico ordered a reconstruction of the painting on the basis
of a photograph which had earlier been commissioned by Societa Ligure di Storia Patria.96
