of Thearionos. Numerous analogous finds enable us to date this seal as of 150 —102 B.C.1.
Next to tlie inscription there is, similarily to seals from othcr territories, an artistic sym-
bol. It is a słender youth with a cornucopia leaning on a support (a post or a column).
Tlie consistent repctition of this symbol by the name of differcnt potters seems to itidicate
that it is the sign of an official2.

V. Canarache publishing the stamped handlcs from Istria defines analogous images on
the seal as "the figurę of a woman with a cornucopia leaning against a column"3. The
illustration of these monuments by "rubbings" rendcrs more difficult a detailcd com-
parison of the object from Mirmeki with Rumanian seals. There is no doubt, however, that
