and the vagabond. He was worshipped as Hikesios, 'the Suppliant's god1,'

example of misplaced ingenuity.

The recognition of Zeus 'E^aKeo-rrjp (Hesych. 'E£a/ce-
0-Trjpt.os- 6 Zevs. Kal 7]"Hpa) is perhaps not unconnected
with the fact that Solon's own father was 'E^/ceo-rio^s.
The oath by this triad of Zeuses was inscribed on the
amoves (Hesych. rpels deoL- irapa 26\wi>t ev rots ai~oo~iv
