The first edition of the “Small Schedel” and the second German
edition of this famous work.
This monumental work is magnificently illustrated by woodcuts of various
sizes. The cuts are copies of such of Michael Wolgemuth and his step-son,
Wilhelm Pleydenwurff. Many of the views of the towns appear nearly authentic,
the most interesting are as follows: Venice (1. 46), Roma (1. 61), the destruction
of Jerusalem (1. 68), Toulouse (first authentic view, 1. 77), Florence (1. 95 vo)
Cologne (1. 100), Augsburg (1. 100 vo), Regensburg (I. 108), Vienna (1. 10Q),
Nuremberg (1. 10Q), Constantinople (1. 146), Strassburg (1. 157 vo), Salzburg
(1. 172 vo), Erfurt (1. 175 vo), Würzburg (1. 180) etc. etc.
The copy is rather stained in places, some rents in margins partly repaired,
from 1. 113, col. 2 there are 21 lines supplied by good facsimile. From the large
map at end the right second leaf is wanting as it is in nearly all copies. Notes
of ownerhip on title.

Very fine large copy of this bull of indulgences relative to the building of
a new churdi at Nördlingen (SS. George and Mary), was issued quinto ydus
Febr. 1479,80 and presumably printed not long after. “It is clear from the inking
that the text was printed in two impressions, the first comprising the first 36
lines, the second comprising the remaining 27 lines and a two-line space”.
The last 11 lines, not existing in the above mentioned Kaestlin edition,
contain indulgences for the visitors of the new churdi and regulations for the
publication of this bulla.
