NO NEW TAXES PROPOSED : W. BENGAL BUDGET PRESENTED

Taking an overall pioture, the Weat Bengal Government's budget proposals
for 1959-60, presented by Dr. Roy, who is also Finance Minister, in the Assem-
bly on Wednesday, show some enoouraging apseots of the State's finances.

The year's estimates reveals a surplus of Bs. 4.10 orores outside the revenue
aooount, a new feature, which will wipe out the expeoted revenue deficit of
Kb. 3.62 orores, leaving an overall surplus of Rs 4.8 lakhs for the first time in
recent years. With the opening balance of Rs. 2.28 orores, the years will close
with Rs. 2.10 orores on the credit side'.

Dr. Roy made no fresh taxation proposals nor did he suggest any relief from
the existing taxes I
