The Sikkim Council

with the chanting of
ritual prayeis. The Maha
rnja of Sikkim was seated
on a golden throne. Be-
hind him butter lamps
flickered, white the golden

. At the Palace pavi-
lion the Maharajki Uiar
read the Maharaja's inau-
gural speech. It was
announced that two Exe-
cutive Councillors aid
two deputy Executive
Councillors wculd be given
portfolios at the Secre
taiiat. Trti-y would be
chosen from among the
elected Councillors. Nor
mal rent would be reali-
zed on the basis proclai-
med in 1957, only from
those who did not possess
additional land.

The thirteenth Pedong
Livestock & Agricultural
Exhibition was declared
open by Sri J. C. Sen
Gupta, I A S., Deputy Com-
missioner Darjeeling, on
26th February in presence
of distinguished^gathering.
Speaking on the occa
sion Sri Sen Gupta dwelt
upon the role of agricul-
turists and their importance
in present economy. He
appealed to the agricul-
turists to rise to the occa-
sion to meet the country's
food requirements.
In this years exhibi-
tion various Govinment
departnierts are participa-
ting. The Japarese agri-
cultural impli menls exhibited
by Bhutan House are very
interesting._

of the Kalimpong Sporta Asso-
